A Weekend In Abington

If you’ve looked into real estate in Bucks County, PA or Montgomery County, PA you’re likely aware of the proximity to the central hub of Philadelphia, you may have also looked at some of its more famous surrounding communities, like the historic Abington, PA.

Abington is a pre-revolutionary township; it dates back to the early 1700’s. It’s consistently ranked among the best places to live in the U.S., and its education system has been recognized by the District Administration as well as U.S. News & World Report.

But what is there to do in Abington over the weekend?

The dining opportunities in Abington are aplenty. If you’re craving good Irish pub fare, The Drake and The Mckinley offer delectable authentic cuisine as well as some standard (and unexpected) bar favorites. If you’re in the mood for something slightly more eastern, The Fig Cafe offers Egyptian dinners, treats and hookah to set the mood. Tiffin, cooks and plates Indian cuisine for those that want to adventure over to the spicier side of flavor. Speaking of the spicier side, Senor Salsa presents its patrons with south of the border meals like burritos, tacos, fajitas and quesadillas.

hiway

Entertainment is easy to find in Abington as well. The Hiway Theatre is a beautiful remnant from an era passed that shows one film a night. The Jenkintown Music Theatre is a perfect place to experience the glory of the stage on a small scale.  The Keswick Theatre, on the other hand, features a touring musician, comedian or other production nearly every night of the week.

If you’re in the market for a new look, Abington has plenty of places to find it. The Willow Grove Mall is just northwest of the township and offers over a hundred different places to shop. Abington Towne Center also has plenty of stores to find shoes, sports apparel and casual wear. The Baederwood Shopping Center is the perfect stop before a big event, housing a hair salon, formalwear store and even a corset shop.
