If you’re a nature lover who’s on the hunt for homes for sale in Montgomery County, PA, you really couldn’t have chosen a better region to buy a house. Montgomery County boasts more than 6,000 acres of land and 60 miles of scenic trails between its nine county-owned parks, where residents can enjoy a variety of activities, including hiking, biking, boating, camping, fishing, picnicking, playing, learning about history, or just relaxing in an idyllic setting.

Natural beauty is everywhere you look in Montgomery County, and that starts with the lush, spacious yards of the area’s many exquisite homes. But when you’re looking to get out for a little fresh air and recreational adventure away from home, here are five of our favorite places to visit.

Alverthorpe Park (Jenkintown, PA) – Athletes will definitely appreciate everything Alverthorpe Park has to offer. You can fish, play a round of golf –  full size or miniature – compete in a game of tennis or basketball, and enjoy a picnic afterward. The park also offers camping.

Green Lane Park (Green Lane, PA) – This is the largest park owned by Montgomery County, spanning more than 3,000 acres and encompasses three bodies of water – Deep Lake Creek, Green Lane Reservoir, and Knight Lake. Guests can enjoy any type of outdoor recreation, from boating to camping to hiking, biking, or riding horses on the many trails.

Lock 60 at the Schuylkill Canal Park (Mont Clare, PA) – Walk, run, or bike the five-mile trail around the water, take a boating excursion, admire the view as you feast on a picnic lunch, go on a wildflower or bird-watching walk, or watch a demonstration of the lock, which was built in the 1800s and has since been fully restored.

Lorimer Park (Abington Township, PA) – Escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life in this peaceful paradise on the Pennypack Creek. This park, named for former Saturday Evening Post editor George Horace Lorimer, features an ancient landmark called Council Rock, a meeting place for Native Americans many centuries ago. The view from the rock is breathtaking, and visitors to the park can relax and take photos there, or enjoy hiking and biking the Pennypack Trail.

Upper Schuylkill Valley Park (Royersford, PA) – If you love animals, this is the place for you. Upper Schuylkill Valley Park features an educational Wildlife Center filled with furry and feathered creatures, from rabbits and turkeys to a bald eagle and a bobcat.

These parks present just a sample of Montgomery County’s vast natural beauty and recreational options. They’re just one part of what makes this area a perfect place to live and raise a family.
